Double me: schizophrenic thinking becoming a condition of survival

The possibility of escaping from reality with the help of virtual identities is already an attractive way of signing off from a given area of life – at least for a matter of hours. Or is aimlessness itself becoming a new value? Will the human being in cyberspace split his interests microscopically and scatter them all over, will he (or she) experience everything simultaneously, defining and configuring himself as often as he pleases, will he find himself no longer able to recognise his identities? Is the capacity for schizophrenic thinking becoming a prerequisite for survival in the confusion of our multi-optional society? – to have a finger in every pie, to be potentially involved at any point, supported by a computer network which enriches the human nervous system by the addition of multiple sensors and sub-systems, externalised regions of the brain... Is cyberman then no more than just the processing node in a mega-brain that encompasses the world? Is culture giving rise to the a kind of superconsciousness – that of a new organism, which we are no longer remotely able to register as information neurons? ......
