Circuitry of Memory

The Internet expresses a truth about human memory: “memory” is not simply a storehouse of facts, but, more importantly, an understanding of how and where to find information. Our “memory” consists of paths to information rather than just knowing actual bits of facts. Computers, networks, the Internet -- these are an extension of our memory. They are external devises, but also part of our memory. They expand our minds to enable the organization and processing of unthinkably large and complex amounts and types of information.

How should we think in them? This is our challenge: to create concepts and formal representations -- means of navigation -- to express and utilize the fullness of our memory in both the most efficient and the most human ways possible......
