The experiment was to modify the original message of the images more and more by means of copying
and mixing, until memory faculty and perception gain access to new associations. This was inspired by
Gertrude Stein´s texts and her literary work where she puts words into a grammatically correct
order without thinking about their meaning. Letters develop their own lives, they are newly read and
understood.
In Flowers and Images, exclusively found footage, the images are modified and revised until they
become impressionistic surfaces and paintings. A poem by Edith Sitwell is flowing over them, a hymn
of colors and flowers. Together with the minimalistic “Where the Bee Sucks”, a composition
by Michael Nyman, it gives an aesthetic soundtrack.
“Where The Bee Sucks
Where The Bee Sucks
There suck I; In a cowslip
Bell I lie; there I couch
When owls do cry. On the
Bat´s back I do fly After
Summer merrily. Merrily
Merrily shall I live now
Under the blossom that
Hangs on the bough.” Michael Nyman
For there is no Height on which there are not flowers.
For flowers have great virtues for all the senses.
For the flowers glorifies God and the root parries the adversary.
For the flowers have their angles even the words of God´s Creation.
For the wrap and the woof of flowers are worked by perpetual moving spirits.
