The pavilion of the Principality of Monaco perfectly reflects the EXPO 2000´s theme of “Humankind,
Nature, Technology” as a “Platform for the leap into the next millennium”.
The artemedia build the pavilion including the interior design with all content. It was our task as the
Art Department to visualize the Outside Waiting Area, the Entrance Area, all Exhibition Areas, a 360
Degrees Cinema, Waiting Areas, Cafes and Recreation Lounges etc. The Art Department for 2 D graphics
created the Monaco Expo 2000 Logo, the orientation system for the Pavilion, storyboards, exhibition
halls, site maps, landscape plans, ad campaigns to support the marketing and public relations.
It was my task to coordinate all activities, to create ideas and partly to realize them.
The design couples the architecture with nature.
As the symbol and logo we created the figure of a high diver at the point of no return. A perfect,
powerful, elegant balancing act: concentrated energetic anticipating the lightness of movement. In a
word: ready for the leap in to the next millennium. The scenography of the pavilion was that we took
the visitor along on this leap into the next millennium. The higher the visitor gets in the pavilion
the closer he gets to the point of no return, the closer he understands Prince Rainers attitude: “It
depends on us whether or not we can bring our blue planet back on course”.
Finding and taking the right path requires finding the right balance between risks and opportunities,
between humankind, nature and technology, architecture and nature, tradition and modernism, reality
and vision.
